Retha Arrabal

Born in Jackson, Miss, I relocated to Chestertown in 1983 with my husband, John, three children, Christyl, Jonathan and Katie. I worked in my husband’s office for 20 years and then five years ago, returned to my first love, selling real estate. I originally had my license with Wyble Enterprises, Realtors and recently moved to Doug Ashley REALTORS, LLC.

I am a strong believer in volunteerism, and have volunteered for Chester River Hospital Auxiliary for many years, organizing and eventually chairing The Christmas Shop. I also am on the Board of the Humane Society, where I am involved heavily in fundraising. I firmly believe in giving back to this wonderful community where we live.

John Bedell

Like many people of Kent County, I am here by choice, but not birth. I became interested in real estate early, working with my father to improve properties and resell them. When it was time for me to go out into the work place I went into construction and enjoyed building a variety of homes through the next decade. Eventually I went to school to become a real estate appraiser and teamed with banks and other lenders on the sales side of the real estate business, (it was then I met and married the love of my life, Donna). About twenty years ago we visited and fell in love with Kent County. We met a realtor here named Doug Ashley who helped us to find a home in Rock Hall and I continued to appraise real estate on the Eastern Shore while Donna rediscovered her teaching career. We were blessed with three children John, Jessica, and James who had the chance to grow up on the Eastern Shore and benefit from the relaxed lifestyle the area is famous for. Wanting to make a positive impact on society, I taught in Kent County Public Schools for several years while our children were enrolled, but realized that real estate was my true passion and so I reacquainted with Doug again and discussed the possibility of me working in real estate. To my delight he invited me to become part of his office family. So, more schooling and I was once again licensed to do business in Maryland.

We have since moved from Rock Hall to Chesapeake Landing in Chestertown. I have served several terms as Treasurer and then as President for our community association. Donna and I are avid boaters and try to spend as much of our spare time on the water.

Feel free to contact me about your Real Estate needs and wants. Let me put over twenty years of Real Estate Experience to work for you. I can be reached easily at john@dougashleyrealtors.com, or my cell 410 708 6294, or the office phone 410 810 0010.

BACKGROUND: My early years were spent in the rural Rising Sun area of Cecil County. During that time I enjoyed working on neighboring dairy farms and I was very active in 4-H. I graduated from Rising Sun High in 1964 and then attended the University of Maryland graduating in 1968 from the College of Agriculture. After college I served two years in the U S Army with one of those years being spent in the central highlands of Vietnam. Following the Army, I worked briefly for the Maryland Dept of Agriculture in a position covering the entire Eastern Shore. In the fall of 1973 I began a land surveying career with J. R. McCrone, Jr. Inc. [now McCrone Inc]. Passing the exam, I became a Maryland registered land surveyor in 1979. In 1981 I initiated a new branch office for McCrone in Elkton and spent the next 28 years managing that civil engineering and land surveying office. I retired from McCrone in December 2009. My second career started by obtaining my real estate license in the fall of 2009 and starting work with Doug Ashley REALTORS in January 2010.

FAMILY: In 1969 I married my wife Marianne. We have raised three daughters Eve, Rebecca, and Sarah. Presently we’re enjoying four young grandchildren. We lived in the village of Fairlee, Kent County for 35 years. Most recently we built a new home in Galena and enjoy living close to a couple of our grandchildren. Working with real estate here in Chestertown gives me the opportunity to learn a new business and work with an entirely new group of people. The work is enjoyable and it’s rewarding to help people reach their goals for their property.

CONTACT: If you currently have a need for assistance in reaching your real estate goals, either buying or selling, please contact me at bud@dougashleyrealtors.com or 410-708-5879.
